Toor Dal
Indian lentil soup
Ingredients
- 1.5 cup washed Toor Dal
- 4 cup water
- 2tbsp oil
- 1 ping asefotida
- 1 tbsp cumin
- 1 tsp coriander powder
- 1 tsp red chill powder2 tsp amchur
- 1 tsp turmeric powder
- 1 serrano pepper chopped
- 1 small ginger (optionally chopped)
- 1/2 onion chopped
- 2 tomato chopped
- 2 tbsp lemon juice
- 2.5 tsp salt (or to taste)
- 1 tsp garam masala
- 1/2 cup chopped cilantro
Instructions
- In a pressure cooker, cook toor dal with water
- In a pan, heat oil
- Add asofotida and cumin seed
- When the cumin seeds start to pop, add coriander powder, red chill powder, turmeric powder and amchur powder
- After a few minutes, add serrano pepper and and ginger
- Once the peppers are cooked, add onions
- Once the onions turn transparent, add tomatoes
- Cook tomatoes till they loose shape
- Mix everything in pan with the cooked dal
- Add lemon juice, Garam Masala, salt and cilantro.
